The List
I found this neat little questionnaire on Pinterest. I found it here.
30 Things my kids should know about me. I obviously don't have time to complete the entire list in one sitting, but I will answer as I can and then save it for my children to look back on. I think this is a really great idea.

24. What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about parenthood?
25. If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and what would you eat?
26. What popular notion do you think the world has most wrong?
27. What is your favorite part of your body and why?
28. What’s your favorite quality in your spouse?
29. What are your hopes and dreams for your prosperity?
30. List 10 things you would hope to be remembered for.
So, to answer #1. This will be hard. I find myself to be boring and plain. Finding 20 random things to say about myself is a challenge.
20 random things:
#1. I love stormy weather (as long as I am at home and not driving in it).
#2. I like to be by myself.
#3. I hate my arms. Always have. I call them "Mamaw arms"
#4. I am insecure about my lips. Ever since 9th grade when I used to wear very little makeup and a friend of mine in harmless teasing (or so she thought it was harmless teasing) called me "pale lips" every single morning. That is why, to this day, I cannot get my lips bright enough or glossy enough. It goes back to my teenage insecurities.
#5. I have very little self control. If I could change anything about my personality, that is the one thing I would change.
#6. I love music. And lyrics. I like songs when I like the lyrics. Not the beat of the music.
#7. I sometimes think that I was born in the wrong century. Or decade. I have a nostalgic heart. Of times gone by. Much, much simpler, innocent times.
#8. I do not like to smile. I'm always worried I have bright pink lipstick on my teeth or remnants of my last meal.
#9. I am a very, very deep person. I think too much. I get emotions involved even when I shouldn't.
#10.I am paranoid. Always worried about what everyone thinks of me. I am getting better at this with age though! Unlike my self-control ability.
#11.People who talk in excess make me extremely nervous. I can feel my body tense up immediately. Sometimes even my husband makes me nervous when we're around other people and he gets wrapped up in a conversation. That man can talk.
#12.I can usually read people, even strangers, very easily. Sometimes it's a gift. Sometimes it's a curse.
#13.I like to have a clean house when my husband gets home from work. It makes me feel like I've had a productive day. And even though he couldn't care less about what the house looks like, I feel like I owe it to him to come home to a clean house.
#14.I wish I knew how to style my own hair. As in, use a curling iron, or hot rollers...... or something.
#15.I love to save money. LOVE.
#16.I like to take catnaps.
#17.I have a very bad attitude that I have to make it a point to suppress sometimes. My mouth and my attitude have gotten me in a heap of trouble over the years.
#18.I suffer from terrible insomnia. But I don't like getting out of my bed to accomplish anything. So I just lie there. Sometimes worrying, sometimes daydreaming, sometimes praying.
#19.I hate shopping for myself.
#20.I do not like messes.
Question #2 from "The List"
Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.
#1. I fear losing my one or more of my children or them being harmed in some way.
As I have gotten older I have seen the fact that none of us are excluded from death or harm. I have seen childhood friends pass from this life very unexpectedly. I have witnessed friends lose siblings and other parents lose a child. Both infants and adult children. I cannot even begin to understand the capacity of grief and loss and utter heartbreak. I never, EVER want to experience the loss of one of my children. EVER.
#2. I fear the crumbling of America in my children's lifetime. And I fear the freedom of religion being stripped away. I fear the downfall of this nation. The reason I fear for that is because it's already happening. Crooked politics and politicians are slowly making America crumble in on itself.
#3. I fear losing people I love. And I know it's bound to happen. From friends to parents to family members. It's a part of life. But when I lie awake worrying at night, that's the kind of thing I think about. Losing my loved ones throughout life.
30 Things my kids should know about me. I obviously don't have time to complete the entire list in one sitting, but I will answer as I can and then save it for my children to look back on. I think this is a really great idea.

My life lately....
I'm sorry if anyone is getting tired of my pictures. But since I can blog AND share pics with my phone, it's just so dang convenient. And pretty much all I have time for! So here ya go.... My life lately.... In pictures. And not to make things all about Mary Grace in these pictures--- but she is what occupies most of my time. She keeps me RUNNING. When do I get to sit down? When she naps. That's it! Thankfully her brothers adore her and likewise, she loves them. They are big helpers for me. And sometimes I need it more than other times. I thought boys were supposed to be the active ones..... She has made up for everything they haven't done! Even our first trip to the emergency room. She was our first child to land there. But I love every second. (Well...... Ahem.... Maybe not EVERY second......)

Red and neck
We've been homeowners 11 years. And that's how long it took my husband to decide to invest in one of these here fancy things. He was like a kid on Christmas morning. All. Day. And although Mary Grace looks non-ecstatic in this picture, she LOVES it. She dropped everything when she heard her daddy crank it. She's going to be his little sidekick in the summer. Most of our neighbors have 4-wheelers AND fancy lawnmowers. We just have the fancy mower. So, for entertainment, all 3 of my boys drove it around the yard at high speeds today. Two words: red. neck.

The Ultimate Valentine's Gift
I used to think that moms who stayed home, or had only part-time jobs were FAILURES if they had to hire someone to clean their house or do their laundry. Then I had three kids. I've been begging Chad for months to agree to hire someone to come clean our house once a month. Once a month. That's not asking for much! He still hasn't committed to the idea, but today, he agreed to it. For Valentine's Day. Guys, if you're ever in a bind for a gift for a woman who has everything, or is hard to please--- the answer is a clean house. For real. My Valentine gift was better than any flower, chocolate, or massage. Even though he still came home with chocolate. Heaven awaited me when I opened the door to a freshly cleaned house. Done by someone other than yours truly. Do you hear me?! Heaven. Worth every penny!
Although, I'm proud of myself for staying two steps ahead of my laundry pile. Take THAT, dirty duds.

Lent
So I panicked last night when I realized that yesterday was Fat Tuesday, which means today is Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of Lent. I had not prepared myself yet or focused my thoughts on giving something up. I have already given up Facebook going on a month now. And I'm sure I have lots of vices that can be discarded of..... At least for a few weeks. However, I had already been thinking about doing the Daniel Fast. Which is only a 21 day fast instead of 6 weeks (the duration of Lent). I've still got a bit more research to do on The Daniel Fast. I had a friend do it starting January 1. She made it the entire 21 days. Which gave me some encouragement. I'm going to count back from March 30 (Easter) and start the fast 21 days before then. If anyone can offer any words about The Daniel Fast, I'm all ears. Obviously this is something I'm going to have to spend a lot of time in prayer over--- getting my heart right. And it's certainly not something I will take lightly. One of my weaknesses is self-control. Actually, that is my biggest weakness and downfall. And it's gotten me waist deep in trouble many, many times. Self-control---- that's where the devil gets his stronghold on me.

New Year's resolutions
So my New Year's "goal" was to become a more organized person. And to get back on a strict budget and cook at least 5 nights a week and use coupons. Well, now that we are about 6 weeks into 2013, I can PROUDLY say: we have success!!!!!
I have planned a menu every week. I ONLY go to the grocery store every 2 weeks (as opposed to 2 or 3 times a week, when I'd easily drop $75 - $100 each visit). I have used coupons. I even dusted off my coupon binder and painstakingly took the time to organize it again and rely on it on my grocery store visits. I have cooked like a mad woman. We haven't eaten out since...... Well, I can't remember. We haven't eaten out at all. Unless you include the one date night Chad and I had the first week in January. But that's been it. Oh, and there was that one night I went out with my best friends from high school. So I guess that counts too.
And as far as organizing. Wow. I have earned bragging rights here..... About myself! I'm one of these that always thinks three steps ahead. It's what has made me a good dental assistant for 12 years (you have to make the boss think you read his/her mind! Ha.) and it overflows into other parts of my life. And unfortunately it overwhelms me at times. Instead of taking things in small steps, I see the whole big picture. And then I freak out! Well, I decided, I'm not going to jump in and try to make myself reach all of my goals in a week or two. And I'm not one that can wake up with expectations of how my day will go. Or how I want it to go. Because I know, in the end, something will go wrong, I'll freak out, and then I'll give up. Yes, I'm a quitter. Unfortunately.
However, I've learned, waking up with NO expectations is the answer for me. Because then I won't disappoint myself and beat myself up. So, when the mood strikes, I chip away at my goals. Whether it's organizing my grocery list and menus and coupons. Or organizing my cabinets and rooms one by one. And it feels GOOOOOD to accomplish a goal I set for myself. My laundry room is so clean and neat and organized you could roller skate in there! I organized my pots and pans and baking dishes. I've thrown stuff out. And let me tell you, I get a RUSH off of throwing things out. You've heard of hoarders, but I'm just the opposite.
It feels great to have some organization in my home. And car! I'm not sure if its my B-12 vitamins or what, but I'm going to keep on chipping away. Cabinet by cabinet, room by room. And sit back and SMILE. Cleanliness and neatness make me happy, happy, happy.

Hot Mess
Mary Grace woke up with wings that would have made Farrah Fawcett jealous. If you know Mary Grace, you understand that this picture truly represents her personality. She is a HOT. MESS.

And now you know the REST of the story.....
So there's always that ONE commercial that everyone is still talking about days after the Superbowl. I didn't get to watch the Superbowl this year, but nonetheless there was a commercial so powerful it made headlines minutes later. You already know the one I'm talking about here. Paul Harvey, Dodge Ram, and "The Farmer".
In a society where outspoken liberal democrats (if that offends you, I'm sorry. No, I'm just kidding, I don't really care if it does) and morals that have been watered down and our nation is killing babies and saving trees, it is SO refreshing to know that Paul Harvey has made his voice known to a new generation. And that shows like Duck Dynasty have made such a HUGE impact. In all of the trash that is on television (I mean, did you catch the halftime show during the Superbowl?! I almost threw up the 30 seconds I caught it passing through the room) there are still the "small" people making such a big impact. Liberals (really, I'm sure that's not a politically correct word, but again, I don't really care about being politically correct) stir, stir, and stir. But it takes just 30 seconds on national television of a late legend, who brought common sense, humor, and morals to America's families for so many years, to leave a huge impact in 2013.
Sometimes when you hear a song out of the blue or smell a scent out of nowhere, they have the power to stir up old memories. Whether good or bad. And for a brief moment you are transported back in time. And it either haunts you or makes you smile for the rest of the day. Paul Harvey's voice does that to me. He stirs up memories, wonderful ones, of my childhood. Every day at lunch, my Poppa and Grandmama would turn on Miss 103 and sit down and listen to Paul Harvey. Every day. They had an orange radio that belonged to my great grandmother. My Poppa was a Southern Baptist preacher, and he never listened to country music , but he would dial into the country music station straight up at noon, and eat his tuna sandwich, or cornbread and buttermilk, and black-eyed peas while my grandmother busied herself filling our glasses with sweet tea.
Thank you, God, for Paul Harvey, grandparents, and memories.
And now you know the rest of the story..... Good day....

Words I needed to hear!
I had a patient say the most beautiful thing today.... And it was something I NEEDED to hear. I wanted to write it down before I forgot it. But it reminded me of some negativity people gave me after I picked up a crippled man on the side of the highway a couple of months ago. (FYI, I don't regularly pick up strangers. EVER! But something prompted me to this time). Anyway, my patient today was telling us some amazing stories of hearing the Holy Spirit speak to her throughout her life. And then she said this: "If you feel the urge to do something you might otherwise find foolish, ask yourself-- is it immoral, is it illegal, or is it unkind? If not, then that is the Holy Spirit speaking". WOW!!!! Love it. Good refresher for me.
